Dawn Obokata has been acting professionally since 1980 and is a long-time artistic collaborator
with Actor’s Lab Theatre in Toronto, (now known as LeTHAL) where she created several image
and movement-based performances. Dawn has toured in Canada and Europe with her solo performances Soulscape Wilderness Trilogy, and IKI: Delight of the Beckoning Stillness and also wrote and performed Japanese Maple with Boston-based sculptor, Bart Uchida, for the Currents/Undercurrents Festival. Other stage credits include the title role in Naomi’s Road as well as the roles of Obasan and Mama.
Dawn has developed a workshop program for actors and students called The Eloquent Body, which focuses on movement, voice and imagination. She has taught Movement for Actors at the Centre for Indigenous Theatre, and is currently an ESL teacher for adult newcomers at the Canadian Centre for Language & Cultural Studies. Since May 2020 Dawn has been part of the Act III Collective, a group of senior (50+) female theatre artists which meets bi-weekly to develop and read new scripts.
1980年からプロの女優として活動し、トロントのActor’s Lab Theatre（現LeTHAL）では、イメージと動きをベースにしたパフォーマンスを長年にわたって創作。Dawnは、ソロパフォーマンスのSoulscape Wilderness Trilogy、IKI：Delight of the Beckoning Stillnessでカナダとヨーロッパをツアーし、ボストンを拠点とする彫刻家、バート・ウチダと一緒にCurrents / Undercurrents Festival で日本のモミジを書いたりパフォーマンスをしたりした。その他の主な出演作に「ナオミの道」オバサンとママの役などがある。ドーンは、動き、声、想像力に焦点を当てた、The Eloquent Bodyと呼ばれる俳優と学生向けのワークショッププログラムを展開。 彼女は先住民劇場センターで俳優のための動作を教えており、現在はカナダ言語文化研究センターで大人の新移民に対しESL教師をしている。 2020年5月から、ドーンは、新しい脚本を制作して読むために隔週で集まるシニア(50歳以上）の女性演劇アーティストのグループ、Act III Collectiveの一員でもある。
