Matt walks and works daily on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg People; Ottawa-Gatineau. His memory and acknowledgement work started in earnest through his collaborations with Julie Tamiko Manning, most notably with their theatre piece The Tashme Project: The Living Archives. We both aspire to perform this piece for the rest of our lives, for it continually deepens and reinforces bonds to our families, communities, elders and ancestors. Embodying the nisei, speaking their verbatim oral histories is a graceful comfort and a quieting gift.
In daily life, Matt bounces from several hands-on jobs to community work while balancing his artistic practice. Matt has proudly served on the board of the Ottawa Japanese Community Association for now 8 years (currently serving as vice-president) and is an active tenor 2 in the Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus. He is a happy back-up singer for the band Ginny and an equally happy back-up dancer for the band Bonnie Doon.
Artistically, Matt has most recently turned to illustration, as a form of playwriting and is drawing his way through his current and recollected Pandemic experience for a play entitled, They Who Say Yes. A recent recipient of SAW Gallery’s Dennis Tourbin Award for Performance Art, Matt’s performance practice combines elements of drag, acrobatics and song. He aspires always to first seduce, then to evoke awe.

オタワ-ガティノー間のアルゴンキン族アニシナアベ族の未開拓の領土を毎日歩き、活動している。 彼の記憶と認容に関する活動は、ジュリー・タミコ・マニングとのコラボレーション、特に彼らのシアター作品「タシミ プロジェクト：リビング・アーカイヴ」を通して本格的に始まった。 この作品は、私たちの家族、コミュニティ、長老者、先祖との絆を継続的に深め、強化するものとして、私たち2人はこの作品を続けていくことを強く目指している。
日系２世を具体化し、彼らの口述記録を言葉通りに話すことは、 潔い慰めであり、穏やかな贈り物である。
日常生活では、マットは芸術活動のバランスを取りながら、いくつかの実務的な仕事とコミュニティの仕事を掛け持ちしている。 オタワ日系協会の役員を8年間務め（現在は副会長）、オタワゲイ メンズ合唱隊のテナー2として活躍している。 ジニーというバンドのバックシンガー、ボニー・ドゥーンというバンドのバックダンサーも同様に楽しく活動している。
芸術家としてのマットは、最近、劇作の一形態としてイラストレーションを描くようになった。
「They Who Say Yes」と題した劇のために、現在と回想のパンデミック体験を通して自分の道について描いているところだ。 最近SAW Galleryのデニス・トービン賞で パフォーマンスアートに於いて賞を受賞した。マットのパフォーマンスは、ドラッグ（女装）、アクロバット、歌の要素を組み合わせたものである。
彼は常に、引きつけてから畏敬の念を呼び起こすことを志している。
